What is Girlwholived.net? Well, it's a little difficult to explain. But, Girlwholived.net is a private collective/network that belongs to Data, that's me. It isn't my portfolio, and it isn't a dedicated to any particular interest other than my website making hobby. I use this place as my experimental portal to test out new things, and just to tinkering around with websites that use my various interests and hobbies as content.

The content is exactly as seen; nothing but a bunch of random stuff thrown together, all under the impression that they make sense to me. Simply put, I like playing with webdesign and webdevelopment, and Girlwholived.net is my playground.

Girlwholived.net has been opened for years. I'd like to say it evolved, and it has, at least in comparison to the original incarnation of what is now Girlwholived.net. It is definitely not the conventional "personal network" for most people, and I doubt it will ever be. The irony of this website, is that my life is currently following a path that is radically different from the path I followed when the essence of this website began, or even when I just registered http://girlwholived.net. When the collective began, originally on the domain theophania.net and then illuminati.nu, I was a high school graduate, waiting to be sent off to a technical art school. When http://girlwholived.net was first registered, I was a temporary-drop out from the same art school. Over the span of a few years, I have been faced with a series of crisis' in my life, which forced me to revaluate how far I am willing to go in order to accomplish my goals. I had to step back and swallow my pride, and re-learn many of the basic academic skills I should have retained in high school. More importantly, I had to learn that if the easy route doesn't have what I want or need, that I need to make my own path.. Now, I am a student at Duquesne University, living more than 1,700 miles away from the home I knew.

Title: Girlwholived.net is a spin-off of the title given to Harry Potter, the character, which is boywholived. Since I'm not a boy, it's replaced with a girl. For those who may want to know the reasons of why I stick to name, reasons outside the "fandom" persons: I stick to girlwholived.net because it also fits how I've survived the tough times. Plainly put, I am a girl, and I lived... lived through what, however, is a bit too self-fapping.

Credits: Other than credit for the title's inspiration to be given to JK Rowling, there are other sources to cite. On August 9th, 2003, I registered the domain through Godaddy Inc. We are hosted by Onespothosting.net. Images are brought by a varied of sources, as are the fonts. The majority of designs are made on a Wintel (PC) machine or an Apple utilizing the greatness of Photoshop, Image Ready, Dreamweaver, and a simple text edit.

Hiatus - oh no, not again...

October 7th, 2008 - My personal network has been ignored for several years now. I don't really owe an apology to anyone but myself, because right now, I feel bugged by the current state of the network. I want to make changes to improve the stability of the website, in terms of adapting to growth and condensing of web content on the network. Part of the reason why I haven't done anything is because of time, since I am a full-time student, finally! But, I still think of my network.

Girlwholived.net will be "closed" while I work on it. But, Girlwholived.net, the proper launching pad for the entire network, will not be the only website that is affected by this. I plan on doing on a lot of my other websites.

Don't expect to see the release of any of these updates overnight. Anyone who has visited my websites for, literally, years knows that I take forever to do anything. That's fine with me, because this is just a hobby, just like everything else I do that branches off of it. Hopefully this won't take years for me to do.

WHAT I HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH

As in, my goals for the hiatus.
  • Organize the backbone of the network. I've always considered my websites to be well-organized, however, I've clearly out grown my current method.
  • Clean up the HTML for the network.
  • Publish a new splash page that better presents the network.
  • Change over Geisha.nu to a cheaper domain name; I am going to convert it to the original domain name www.usyagi.net.
  • Consolidate information about the webdomains (i.e. boywholived.com & geisha.nu) that serve as subsidiaries to Girlwholived.net.
  • Launch new features to Girlwholived.net; i.e. Photography.
  • Merge content that was otherwise branching away from Girlwholived.net, but was really network or personal related content, with that of Girlwholived.net
  • Work on some of my hobby-interest-site-thingies projects; i.e. A shrine to Sailormoon's Luna.

They are in no particular order, so who knows what will get done first. All of that may not make sense or you, or you may generally not care, but that's my list for it. Either way, please don't expect all this work to be done in a timeframe that would be reasonable for any normal human being. I am not normal. :P

At the heart of why I want to work on Girlwholived.net, essentially redoing a lot of what's here, is that since I first set up my collective, to the most recent time I've worked on everything, my mode of website operation has evolved. I have also been exposed to more experiences with many of the tools I took for granted, or tools I never had available to me. I really want for Girlwholived.net to show these evolutions.
